Psychometric Properties of the Toddler Behavior Assessment Questionnaire Applied to Japanese Children

Abstract

This research investigated the psychometric properties of the Toddler Behavioral Assessment Questionnaire (TBAQ) with a sample of 483 18-month-old Japanese children. A subset of the sample (N = 50) participated in a second study exploring the relationship among TBAQ maternal, paternal scores, and results of a laboratory-based assessment. The results of the first study showed high internal consistencies of the scales as well as independence of the five dimensions of the TBAQ. Results from the second study showed that TBAQ scores reflected low to moderate range of convergence with results from laboratory measures, and low to moderate parental agreement with high variability for each item, suggesting bath situation and behavior specificities. We also obtained indirect evidence of the independence between Social Fear and Non-social Fear dimensions.
